Mondiali di Rugby 2011 in New Zealand
23 MARCH 2007 Rugby New Zealand (RNZ) 2011 Ltd has announced the first management and staff appointments as the organisation continues to take shape and lead the preparations for Rugby World Cup (RWC) 2011 in New Zealand. The appointments follow the announcement in December that current New Zealand Cricket CEO, Martin Snedden, would be RNZ 2011 Ltd’s CEO. Mr Snedden said the appointments are critical to both the continued progress in planning for the Tournament, as well as the organisational development of RNZ 2011 Ltd, which is effectively a start-up company. “This is the first step in building a dynamic team able to deliver a world-class event, on a scale that we have not experienced in New Zealand before,” he said.Nigel Cass, who has been seconded to RNZ 2011 Ltd from the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) since early 2006, has been appointed General Manager, Tournament Services. Mr Cass was previously the NZRU’s Project Manager for the RWC 2011 Bid and Project Manager for the 2005 DHL NZ Lions Series. Prior to those roles, he was the NZRU’s Provincial Union and Franchise Manager and was also Chairman of the New Zealand International Sevens joint venture company. He is also the immediate past Chairman of the New Zealand Recreation Association and prior to joining the NZRU, he worked in senior positions with the Hillary Commission (now SPARC). Therese Walsh, the NZRU’s General Manager, Corporate Services, is currently a member of the NZRU Senior Management Team and has been appointed General Manager, Corporate Services, for RNZ 2011 Ltd. Ms Walsh has also been on secondment to RNZ 2011 Ltd since 2006 and during that time has been responsible for negotiating the agreements and structures which have established the Tournament company. During her time at the NZRU, Ms Walsh has been responsible for overseeing the legal, finance, HR, facilities management, procurement, IT, strategy and risk functions and has also been involved in several major initiatives including New Zealand’s participation in Rugby World Cup 2003 and the RWC 2011 Bid project. In addition to her NZRU role, Ms Walsh is a board member for Save the Children New Zealand. In 2006, she was a National Finalist for the NZIM/Eagle Technologies Young Executive of the Year Award. Prior to joining the NZRU in 2001, Ms Walsh had held a senior role with KPMG. Andrew Steele will take up the position of Business Advisor, Tournament Services. Mr Steele is currently assisting RNZ 2011 Ltd on secondment from the NZRU, where he was the Business Advisory Manager. Prior to joining the NZRU, his background was in consulting, most recently with KPMG Consulting, and in banking. Sally Kane has been appointed Business Advisor, Corporate Services. Ms Kane has worked with the NZRU since 2004 in the finance department and was the project financial manager for the DHL NZ Lions Series in 2005. Prior to joining the NZRU, she worked with Wellington City Council and Deloitte. Cath Ingram has been appointed to the position of Executive Assistant for RNZ 2011 Ltd and will be the assistant to the CEO and management team. Ms Ingram is currently the Executive Assistant to NZRU CEO Chris Moller and previously held a number of administration roles within Parliament. All of the appointments will commence their new roles by the time Mr Snedden takes up his position on May 7.
